A place with a story
The history of ’t Waetermeschien dates back to 1884, when a drinking water pumping station was built here. Steam engines were used to extract fresh water from the dunes for nearby towns, including Vlissingen.
During the North Sea Flood of 1953, this site once again played a vital role in supplying drinking water to Walcheren.
In 2004, the area was given a new purpose and transformed into an estate, with both nature and historical elements carefully preserved. The former pump building and service houses — including our accommodations — now form a unique setting in the landscape.

A Place with a Story
The story of ’t Waetermeschien began in 1884, when a water pumping station was built in the heart of the dunes. From here, fresh dune water was extracted, purified and distributed as drinking water to Vlissingen and the surrounding area.
During the Second World War and the North Sea Flood of 1953, this site once again played an important role in Walcheren’s drinking water supply. When other facilities were unable to operate, 't Weatermeschien proved to be a reliable source of clean drinking water.
In 1996, the pumping station was taken out of service. In 2004, the area was given a new purpose as an estate.
Today, peace, space and nature take centre stage. The former pumping station and staff houses — including our holiday accommodations — together form a unique piece of history, hidden among the dunes of Dishoek.
